Driver CPC is designed to enhance the existing knowledge and skills of drivers to ensure that they continue to be safe, courteous and drive in an environmentally friendly manner.
Driver CPC training will;
The EU passed the Driver CPC EU Directive in 2003 and it affects all professional LGV / HGV (C1, C and C + E) and PCV / PSV (D1, D and D + E) drivers.
There are two types of Driver CPC Training:
Initial Driver CPC
This type of training is aimed at new drivers and is part of the process of becoming a professional driver. For more information on Initial Driver CPC please see https://www.gov.uk/become-lorry-bus-driver/getting-qualified.
Periodic Driver CPC
The CPC Link have a national group of Consortium Members who deliver Periodic Training which is aimed at all existing bus, coach and lorry drivers. Having acquired a license, a driver holding LGV / HGV (C1, C, C + E) or PCV / PSV (D1, D, D + E) will have to undertake 35 hours of training every five years to ensure that their Driver CPC is current and they hold a Drivers Qualification Card (DQC). Only courses that have been approved by the Joint Approvals Unit for Periodic Training (JAUPT) will count towards the Periodic Training requirement.
The content of courses must relate to the Driver CPC Periodic Training syllabus, to view the syllabus please see https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/driver-cpc-syllabus
Periodic training is recorded on a central database administered by DSA. Every time a driver completes one of our approved course’s, the consortium member will upload the drivers details into the member’s area of www.cpclink.co.uk The CPC Link will then update the required details to the central database. Drivers are able to access this information to confirm that all records are correct. To do so please go to https://www.gov.uk/check-your-driver-cpc-periodic-training-hours
It is an offence to drive a vehicle commercially without holding a valid DQC, and to cause or permit another person to do so. The CPC link is proud to state that once followed, its syllabus ensures compliance with current requirements. However there are certain exemptions. To see guidance on those who may be exempt please go to https://www.gov.uk/guidance/driver-cpc-exemptions-examples
